The Hidden Root Cause

Is your mouth working against your health?

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) occur when the muscles of the face, tongue, and throat develop improper patterns. The effects ripple into nearly every area of health β€” often going unrecognized for years.

If you or your child experience any of the following, myofunctional therapy may be the missing piece:

  • Mouth breathing (day or night)
  • Snoring or sleep apnea
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Tongue thrust or lisp
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • TMJ pain or tension
  • Behavioral or focus issues
  • Fatigue despite enough sleep
  • Forward head posture
  • Crowded teeth or narrow palate

The Framework

Four Pillars of Myofunctional Therapy

Every program is built around restoring these four foundational functions. When each pillar is in place, the entire system works better.

πŸ‘„

Lip Seal

Lips closed at rest protect the airway from mouth breathing, maintain facial muscle tone, and support proper jaw development over time.

πŸ‘ƒ

Nasal Breathing

The nose filters, warms, and humidifies air β€” and produces nitric oxide, a vasodilator that improves oxygen delivery throughout the body.

πŸ‘…

Tongue Position

Tongue resting on the palate acts as a natural palate expander, supports jaw development, and reduces airway collapse during sleep.

πŸ”„

Swallowing Pattern

Correct swallowing uses the tongue tip on the palate β€” not pushing forward. We swallow 500–1,000 times daily, so every correct swallow reinforces healthy muscle patterns.

Adult Programs

Sleep Apnea & MAD Support Programs

Group Zoom sessions β€” up to 12 participants β€” 30 minutes per week. Designed for adults with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS), or primary snoring, especially those using a Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD).

Most Comprehensive

12-Week Adult Program

Full-Scope MAD Support Β· Group Zoom

A gradual, thorough approach to retraining every muscle group involved in breathing, sleep, and airway function.

  • Wks 1–4 Foundation β€” tongue posture, lip seal, nasal breathing, swallowing basics
  • Wks 5–8 Intensification β€” jaw stability, soft palate toning, diaphragmatic breathing, posture
  • Wks 9–12 Mastery β€” advanced exercises, personalized maintenance plan, graduation
  • Daily 5–10 min home practice, building progressively each week

Best for: new to myofunctional therapy, moderate-to-severe OSA, gradual pacing preferred.

Accelerated

6-Week Adult Program

Condensed MAD Support Β· Group Zoom

The full 12-week curriculum delivered in an accelerated format. All core muscle groups covered in a shorter timeline.

  • All Groups Tongue, lips, nasal breathing, swallowing
  • All Groups Soft palate, jaw, posture integration
  • Daily 5–10 min home practice with deeper weekly sessions
  • Outcome Personalized maintenance plan at graduation

Best for: prior therapy experience, time constraints, mild snoring, or MAD adjustment support.

Personalized

Individual Assessment

One-on-One Β· In-Person or Virtual

For patients requiring individualized care outside of group programs, or seeking a thorough evaluation before beginning therapy.

  • Intake Comprehensive health history review
  • Eval Oral assessment, photos, video documentation
  • Plan Individualized treatment with session-by-session programming
  • Ongoing Session notes and progress tracking

Best for: complex cases, dental provider referrals, or individualized care needs.

Which Adult Program Is Right For You?

Choose 12-Week When… Choose 6-Week When…
You're new to myofunctional therapy You have prior myofunctional experience
You have significant muscle dysfunction You're a strong, self-directed learner
You have moderate-to-severe OSA You have time constraints or a shorter timeline
You benefit from gradual pacing You have mild snoring or need MAD adjustment support
Children Ages 5–16

Better breathing.
Better sleep.
Better development.

Many children who struggle with focus, behavior, fatigue, or developmental concerns may actually be experiencing airway and sleep-related issues. Early intervention creates life-changing improvements.

The 6-Week Kids Program is delivered as group Zoom sessions with parent and caregiver involvement built into every week.

  • Week 1

FoundationsWhat myofunctional therapy is and why it matters β€” including the sleep connection.

  • Week 2

Lip SealLip strengthening, button pull exercises, mouth breathing habit correction.

  • Week 3

Tongue PostureResting tongue position, tongue clicks, palate engagement exercises.

  • Week 4

Nasal BreathingNasal retraining, alternate nostril breathing, nasal hygiene habits.

  • Week 5

Swallowing PatternCorrect swallow sequence, eliminating tongue thrust.

  • Week 6

Integration & GraduationFull routine review, maintenance plan, family education, and celebration.

Forward head posture can narrow the airway by up to 30% β€” which is why postural training is integrated throughout every adult program, not treated as a separate concern.

Children who breathe through their noses sleep more deeply and show better cognitive performance, emotional regulation, and physical growth compared to chronic mouth breathers.

When combined with a Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD), myofunctional therapy improves appliance adherence, comfort, and long-term outcomes β€” making therapy and device work together rather than separately.

Scope of Practice

As a myofunctional therapist, Tiffany's role is to assess and retrain the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat. This practice does not diagnose, treat, or manage medical conditions, and does not provide appliance management (which remains with the prescribing dental provider). All programs are designed to work collaboratively alongside existing medical and dental care.
